CAMPAIGN PROMISES

The theme in my campaign is to eliminate poverty in Bungoma, Kenya. I will write microcredit business plans to help local farmers get loans, including incentives to the local banks to make this happen. I will work on finding markets for local businesses to sell their produce. I will be finding markets for these people to sell their products at decent prices, especially for local farmers since almost 95% of our Bungoma County is agricultural based.  We need to find a way for these farmers to have markets. We need processing plants for coffee so that the coffee is processed locally to prevent the farmers from being reduced to selling their coffee at “throw away prices”.  Local farmers will then get good prices for their produce including local fruits and vegetables which will also improve local health in our communities.

With my networking connections in America, having lived here for many years, I will help farmers in Bungoma County find markets for their goods to sell their produce in the United States. This is important for our local farmers since without markets for their produce, they sell for lower prices and do not receive their fare share of money for the work they have done to till the soil, sweat in the hot sun and harvest the planted crops.

Education is of the utmost importance. Computer literacy is something that I can do in planning programs so that our local children can compete in the global economy. I have already implemented computer programs and am helping build a library in my home town of Teremi, Kenya. It is amazing, the leaps and bounds with which children’s minds grow with the correct tools, such as new computers, library access and new technology.

Healthwise, what we need is to improve our hospitals and clinics at home, in Kenya. We need to have a nationalized health care insurance program for all Kenyans. All Kenyan hospitals are completely dilapidated and in need of urgent repair.

Next is transportation. We must build roads and stop the violence along the roads in Bungoma County and all over Kenya.  Our infrastructure has been completely forgotten for many years. It has just completely failed. With this, our markets will be open within our own country. If we have poor roads, people cannot get from Point A to Point B. It is just so hard. The roads are just impossible. It takes forever to get to clinics and by the time local people get there, there is no medicine. This must improve.

We must have more citizen participation and a voice for the local community into their own affairs in terms of local health and political decisions. A lot of times, the local population is not given a chance to express their opinions. I want to see this situation change within my lifetime since each person’s opinion who lives in a village within Bungoma County is important. Help me to help YOU!

Along with this change for all people to be more involved in their political and social processes, is to empower our youth. We want to be innovative to provide jobs to youth to let them become integral, functional members of our society. The consequences of our youth not being occupied is that they may become involved in alcohol, drugs and crime. I do not want our youth to despair. I want to create programs to give them hope to live and thrive in our communities. Our youth are the leaders of tomorrow for Kenya. The youth are sometimes left to feel alone. Having lived in America, I have seen how beneficial an American education is. I would like to help youths to study in the United States and to find them opportunities to apply their education in the future of Kenya. We must bring youth into our society to let them feel apart of us, because they are, in fact, a part of us and we are proud of them.

I promise that these are things I will address once I am in office in the Kabuchai Constituency of Bungoma County, Kenya.

Thank you for your consideration and please give to my campaign.

Yours sincerely, -Paul Kuto
